Some of you may be wondering, “What the heck is a chakra?” A chakra is wheel of electric-magnetic energy located in the subtle body (a.k.a, the human energy field, the aura) that correlates to specific regions in the physical body. There are 7 main chakras where the channels of energy that make up the subtle body (also known as meridians or nadis) converge. Think of these channels as freeways and the chakra is a place of convergence, like a train station. For those of you who find this information a little “woo-woo” and prefer a little more facts in your life, grab a Kirlian camera to see the aura for yourself.
Chakras are not physical. They represent physical, emotional and energetic areas of a person but they are located in the auric (energetic) body. Each chakra has specific color, symbol, sound, vibration(speed at which the energy moves). We can balance, open or calm these energy centers through movement, sound, color, meditation, crystals, aromatherapy and so much more.
On to your sexual chakra…
I love to call the second chakra your sex, drugs and rock-n-roll chakra. Also known as Svadhishthana in Sanskrit, the orange colored second chakra is about partnerships, relationships, creativity, sexuality, union, balancing of the male/female or yin/yang energy, reproduction and finance. This chakra relates to your sexual and financial power in the world and how we get along with others.
The element of this chakra is water. Orgasm, menstruation, fertility, urination, prostate, and tears are all apart of the second chakra. The sacral chakra very sensitive to emotional input and expression. Sensuality, desire and intimacy are at play in this sacred sexual chakra. Anatomically this chakra governs, small intestine, hips, sacrum and reproductive organs in both male and females.
When this chakra is open and fluid, when the energy is moving and grooving, we are able to be at ease with others. We earn income easily and fruitfully. We are able to connect physically, sexually, passionately and intimately with people. The creative and sexual juices are flowing and life feels alive and interconnected.
When this chakra is too open, or weak we can become too indulgent in the pleasures of life. We lack responsibility and overspend. We can suffer from addiction, too much partying and/or become promiscuous. In general we have trouble setting boundaries.
When this chakra is closed we have trouble opening up in relationships and being intimate. We are shut down sexually or feel guilty about sex. Frigidity. Frugality. We lack creative passion or passion about life. Finding pleasure is extremely difficult.
Whether we are single and looking for love or in a serious relationship, a healthy, balanced second chakra is imperative. Awareness is always a great place to start. Know your chakras. If you find one of your energy centers is out of balance, there are many tools to help you!
